Sundarbans (March 2007) |
|
Travelling to Sundarbans is not cheap as you have to organize your own boat or take one of the guided tours, but even in this case is a must in Bangladesh. Sleeping under the stars, relaxing in the beach or swimming in a river, watching the fauna and flora by the small side canals and more are a really rewarding experience.
The Sundarbans is the largest litoral mangroove belt in the world and cover an area of nearly 3600 sqm in Bangladesh and 2400 swm in India.
About one-third of the total area of this forest is covered in water, river channels, canals and tidal creeks. The land is constantly being reshaped by tidal action, and cyclones wreak havoc.
